The African shot stopper was the preferred choice of manager, Erik ten Hag, who has been found shaking head on his goalie’s numerous blunders.
In such a scenario, reports indicate that Man Utd are interested in signing French international and AC Milan star Mike Maignan.
According to Foot Mercato, the Rossoneri have been negotiating a new deal with the 28-year-old for over six months but have not managed to reach an agreement.
In such a scenario, top European clubs are ‘ready to offer themselves’ and exploit the ongoing impasse by signing the former Lille man and Man Utd are one of them.
The French news outlet have mentioned that Erik ten Hag is not convinced by the performances of Onana and really admires the profile of Maignan.
The 13-capped star is the No.1 goalie for France since Lloris retired from international football after the FIFA World Cup last year. He will likely be the main man in goal at the European championships next year.
He was a key member of the AC Milan side that won the Scudetto in 2021-22 but had an injury hit campaign last term.
Maignan’s current contract with the Italian giants will expire in 2026 and as per FM, he is valued at around £60.1million (70 million euros).
Man Utd paid around £47million to sign Onana from the Nerazzurri in the summer. Should they now splash £60.1million to sign Mike Maignan?
I feel that no change is good enough for this club. All the coaches come and go and even if new players brought it, I cannot see much difference in this club. The fans have lost trust in some of these players who are not likely to follow any rules or instructions by the coach or staff and being disrespectful to any coach is not the way to aim for a win. He maybe tough on the players and yes every coach would want to maintain this toughness to make his players to develop fitness and various other level of standards for the betterment of his team. Also the coach on his part must give opportunities to others like another goalie to play more often in order to find out who is a better player and only by doing so, you can make them compete for that first place. Also the other could be ready to play well in case of injury or other issues instead of relying only on one and making it difficult for the other if suppose he has to suddenly replace the other one. If the coach has to be strict with the players is a good thing to also maintain discipline and not let the players think they are bigger than the club.
