Man Utd should secure signing of £80million attacker in January

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United splashed a lot of cash in the summer transfer window but in all fairness, they did not adequately strengthen their squad.

The Red Devils did sign two defenders to reinforce the back-line but the midfield and the attack are still weak.

In the center of the park, Fellaini left the club for China in the winter transfer window earlier this year and Herrera left in the summer to join French champions PSG. Still, Solskjaer did not strengthen the department.

On the other hand, in the attack, our top scoring center forward, Lukaku, and highest earner, Sanchez, were allowed to leave for Inter Milan and only young Daniel James was lured. The Welsh international has been impressive and deserves to win the Player of the Month.

In the offense, United do not have a natural quality central attacking midfielder. Pogba can play as a CAM but naturally, he is a creative central midfielder and has mainly excelled in that role over the years. Lingard has been highly inconsistent over the years and Mata is past his best and mainly deployed on the flank by Solskjaer.

Therefore, in my view, Woodward needs lure a top quality central attacking midfielder in the January transfer window and he should secure the signing of James Maddison to fill the void.

Last month, Mirror Sport revealed that United are planning a January move to sign the Leicester City star, who could cost around £80million. He had an impressive debut season in the Premier League.

Last season, he directly contributed in 14 Premier League goals (7 goals and 7 assists). United do not have a free-kick specialist at the club and Maddison is one of the best from dead ball situations. In the last campaign, he scored three goals from direct FKs, moreover, he has that fantastic ability to strike the ball from distance.

In the current campaign, so far, in 5 appearances, he has scored 1 goal and provided 2 assists for the Foxes. If he does end up moving to Old Trafford in January, then I would like to see him start in the CAM role with wingers like James and Rashford behind the main center forward.

In your opinion, should United splash £80million to secure his signing?

  1. I rate Maddison and I agree that we have no Free Kick specialists at the moment, nor a penalty taker. but I would hesitate to pay 80m for the guy. SWe did that with Maguire and that was a waste of about 50m. I think we should look for a South American or continental player who will probably be better at half the price.
