Tottenham have not yet agreed a new deal with Christian Eriksen and reports suggest that the Danish international could leave the club in the winter transfer window.
According to an exclusive story covered by The Sun, Man Utd are to make a stunning move to sign the £80,000-a-week playmaker (Mirror Sport) in January.
The British source have mentioned that United were willing to splash a fee of £70million to hire the services of the former Ajax man in the summer but changed their plans after knowing about the player’s desire move to Spain. It is further stated that United will revive their interest in signing him in winter.
Transfer: Man Utd now looking to sign star with £108million clause in January – Report
Eriksen is one of the best players in the Spurs squad and it is baffling that the north Londoners have not tied him down to a new long term contract. His current deal with the Champions League runner-ups will expire next summer.
In 2017-18 season, he made it into the PFA Team of the Year after scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists in 37 league appearances. In the last campaign, the Danish star directly contributed in 20 goals (8 goals and 12 assists) in 30 league starts for Spurs.
The 27-year-old can play in multiple attacking positions but naturally, he is a central attacking midfielder. United only signed young winger Daniel James to strengthen their offense in the summer and they clearly need to further reinforce the department after letting Lukaku and Sanchez leave.
They have an inconsistent player in the form of Lingard, a veteran in the form of Mata and a youngster in the form of Pereira, who can play in the CAM position. United lack a proven quality player for that role and Eriksen perfectly fits the bill.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the January transfer window.
