Manchester United are consistently pushing to beat Arsenal to the signing of Argentine international, Lisandro Martinez.
Yesterday, The Mail reported that the Red Devils are in pole position to hire the services of the central defender from Ajax.
Transfer: Man United reach total agreement with club to secure signing – Contract to be sorted
Today, the British news source have mentioned (news image provided below) that Man Utd have submitted an offer worth £34.5m to sign the 24-year-old South American.
It is stated that Gunners moved in with a similar bid as well and it was turned down, however, the Old Trafford outfit could inflate their offer with bonuses to get the signing done.
As far as the asking price is concerned, The Mail claim that the Dutch champions are looking for a fee of £43m to part ways with their prized asset.
Martinez had a successful last year for both Ajax and Argentina. He was rock solid at the back under Ten Hag as the Eredivisie giants won the league title. Moreover, he directly contributed in 5 goals in all competitions.
On the other hand, the 7-capped international was part of the squads that won the Copa America and the Finalissima.
Last season, every single Manchester United defender was inconsistent. Even Varane, who has won four Champions League titles and a World Cup, was average at the back when fit.
Ten Hag needs to sort out the defensive conundrum if the Red Devils are to bounce back in the next campaign. In your opinion, is Lisandro Martinez good enough to improve the defense at Old Trafford?
