Man Utd to sign £43m star for cheap, club now forced to accept lower fee – Report

De Ligt and Van Dijk

Man Utd have been chasing Matthijs de Ligt for weeks and are now expected to sign him for cheap before deadline.

Yesterday, we covered a story stating that Ten Hag is closing in on reuniting with the Dutch center back at Old Trafford, who is valued at 50 million euros i.e. £43m.

As per today’s edition of Bild (news image provided below), Bayern do not want a deadline day transfer saga like last year.

In 2023, they agreed a deal to sign Palhinha from Fulham but time ran out in the transfer window and the Portuguese ended up staying with the Cottagers. The DM has joined the Bavarians this summer.

Now, the Bundesliga giants want to avoid a similar situation with regards to players’ sales. For De Ligt, they are playing poker with Man Utd.

The Red Devils are intentionally waiting to reduce the asking price and Bayern are forced to accept a lower fee if they want to complete the signing of Jonathan Tah from Leverkusen.

Bild state the German champions claim they have not heard ‘anything’ from Bayern Munich for six weeks and they do not want to wait forever.

So, the six time European champions are under immense pressure from both ends and must drop their asking price to sell De Ligt if they want to complete the ‘dream’ signing of Jonathan Tah.

There is still ample time in the summer transfer window but the season will start this weekend with the Community Shield contest.

So, it is not just about how long Bayern can wait, Man Utd must also act fast to lure De Ligt.

We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds and will keep you up to date.
