Last week, AS reported that Atletico Madrid could be forced to sell Saul Niguez for cheap and Man Utd could offer 75 million euros to lure him.
However, more recently, Marca have covered a contrasting story and claimed that the Rojiblancos are not prepared to offer any sort of discount for the sale of their superstar midfielder, who has a long term contract with the club.
Transfer: Man Utd take steps to sign £70million playmaker, who’s contacted Martial – Face competition
The famous Spanish source have revealed that to secure the signing of Niguez, Man Utd will have to activate the release clause of 150 million euros (£131million).
The 25-year-old is one of the most important stars at Atletico Madrid and it is not surprising that the La Liga side want United to break their club transfer record if they want to hire his services.
Former Man Utd center half, Rio Ferdinand rates the midfielder very highly. Praising the La Roja star, the current BT Sport pundit said (Marca):
“What a player! I have been talking about Saúl Ñíguez for some years. I think he is an important player. Complete, calm, with a very good left foot, game manager, he can score goals, tactically he is consistent”
The 19-capped international can play in multiple roles on the field and he was brilliant against European Champions Liverpool, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico last month.
Man Utd surely need such a versatile talent in the center of the park and if he does end up moving to Old Trafford then we can expect him to start with McTominay in the central midfield behind attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
The real question is, should the Red Devils break their club transfer record and pay £131million to secure the signing of Niguez?
