Manchester United are linked with numerous top players and a new name is in the lime light in the form of Thomas Lemar.

According to ESPN, the French international is a priority target and Man Utd have already made contact with his representatives.

Transfer: Man Utd want to attack club to sign ‘complete’ £46million star – Face competition

Lemar was a key member of the Monaco squad that won the Ligue 1 title back in 2016-17 season. He was also part of the French national squad that lifted the World Cup trophy in 2018.

Before the start of last campaign, the attacker, who can effectively play on either flank, joined Atletico Madrid but he has not been able to perform well under the management of Simeone.

The Argentine manager is renowned for setting up defensive teams and not many attackers excel in that setup. In January, Simeone himself admitted that Lemar has not been able to develop his game with the Rojiblancos (Marca).

In the current campaign, so far, the 22-capped international has made 22 appearances for the La Liga side in all competitions but only started 9 times. He has not been able to score a goal or provide an assist as yet this term.

Man Utd do need to improve the quality and depth of their wide attacking positions and may be a change in system could help the ex Caen player get his best form back. ESPN have mentioned that the PL giants believe the 24-year-old, who was wanted by Liverpool and Arsenal two years back, has the qualities to be a hit at Old Trafford.

Thomas Lemar’s current contract with the Spanish side will expire in 2023 and it has a mammoth release clause (Marca) of 190 million euros (£175million).

We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming months.
