Man Utd will push hard to finally sign decorated star

Samuel Umtiti

Man Utd have been interested in signing Samuel Umtiti for a very long time and once again, the Barcelona star is in the focus.

Back in 2018, the Red Devils were prepared to pay 60 million euros (AS) to sign the French international but the Catalan giants moved to agree a new deal with their center back, who now has a clause of 500 million euros.

Transfer: Man United in battle to sign £85million attacker – Report

Last year, the Old Trafford outfit once again inquired (Mundo Deportivo) about hiring the services of the Les Bleus defender but in the end, he stayed at the Nou Camp.

Recently, famous Spanish source, Sport, have covered a report and claimed that Man Utd will push hard to finally secure his signature in the summer transfer window.

The former Olympique Lyon star regularly started for Barca in their double winning 2017-18 campaign and then played a pivotal role in helping France win the World Cup in Russia.

However, since then, the 31-capped international has been highly injury prone. Last term, was mainly out with knee concerns and only played 14 games in the La Liga.

As far as this season is concerned, the 26-year-old central defender has missed a lot of games due to foot injury and so far, he has only started 9 times in the league.

So, Umtiti might be a decorated star, who has won several major prizes but he has rarely been fit and therefore, we should not look to secure his signature in the summer.

At Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got enough quality and depth in the central defense with players like Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly, Jones and Tuanzebe around (Smalling playing on loan for Roma). Moreover, we spent a lot of cash to strengthen the back-line last year and must not spend more this time.

Instead, our Norwegian manager should focus on improving the team’s offense in the summer transfer window. In your view, should Man Utd sign Samuel Umtiti if he is available for cheap?
