Manchester United ‘close in’ on signing, Mourinho has lost faith in Martial

According to The Sun, Manchester United are ‘closing in’ on the signing of Chelsea winger Willian, with manager Jose Mourinho losing faith in Anthony Martial and keen for a reunion with the Brazilian international he worked with in his second stint at Stamford Bridge. And now Brazil are out of the 2018 World Cup, United believe they can land the 29-year-old’s signature.

Despite having Martial, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku for options in attack, Mourinho wants another addition this summer. Martial has an uncertain future at Old Trafford and could make way for the Chelsea man to replace him. Willian won’t come cheap, however, with the former Anzhi Makhachkala man reportedly worth around £60m.

United have made three signings this summer – Diogo Dalot from FC Porto, Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and Lee Grant from Stoke City. Willian would take their spending to well over £100m. That’s not to say he isn’t a talented player, however. The winger joined Chelsea in 2013 and has gone on to make 236 appearances in all competitions, contributing 83 goals. He’s won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup during his time with the Blues.
