According to ESPN, Manchester United’s Head of Scouting Marcel Bout has been watching OGC Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, as the Red Devils eye replacements for Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini.
Seri joined Nice from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Paços Ferreira in 2015 and has gone on to make 116 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 34 goals. The 26-year-old will be out of contract next year and may not renew his deal given all the interest in his signature.
The Ivorian international nearly joined Barcelona last summer before the deal broke down. Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with a move too. With a release clause of £35m, Seri is expected to have a lot of interest at the end of the season, meaning United may have stiff competition to land his signature.
A box-to-box midfielder who can provide goals and assists, Seri would be an asset for many clubs, but United have a fervent need given Carrick is retiring at the end of the campaign and Fellaini’s contract will expire.
Couple that with uncertainty over the long-term futures of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba and United could be losing up to four midfielders in the coming months.
