Manchester United are reportedly prepared to offload Luke Shaw as they seek to go on a spending spree during the January transfer window. The England international has managed just three appearances for United this term, with his only start coming in the Champions League win over CSKA Moscow last week.
According to Metro, the 22-year-old could be shown the exit door in the New Year with United looking to recoup valuable funds to spend on new recruits. Shaw is currently behind the likes of Ashley Young, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian in the pecking order on the left side of the defence, but he did put in a good performance in the CSKA triumph.
Nevertheless, the Englishman’s future is hanging in the balance with United looking at the prospect of luring Juventus’ Alex Sandro to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window. The Brazil international is keen to push for a Turin exit next month, and United are looking at the prospect of beating Chelsea to his services.
Young has been the regular for the left-back/left wing-back spot in the Premier League since September, but the 32-year-old was not entirely comfortable on Sunday where he struggled to cope with the movement of Manchester City’s Leroy Sane.
Shaw is likely to earn some playing time between now and the turn of the year, and his performances on the pitch could dictate whether he has a future under Jose Mourinho, who has been critical of his poor workrate and attitude in the past.
