Manchester United reportedly have a clear route to pursue Nemanja Matic after Juventus switched their attention from the Serbia international. The 28-year-old has been training apart from his Blues’ teammates, and he is expected to leave Stamford Bridge before next month’s transfer deadline.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Red Devils no longer face competition for Matic with the Bianconeri having turned their focus to Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi. Max Allegri’s side were initially hopeful of negotiating a transfer fee for the 28-year-old this month, but they have ended their interest after knowing of the player’s intention to reunite with Jose Mourinho.
The Serie A holders failed with a transfer approach for Matuidi last summer, but they are confident of wrapping up a deal this time around with Les Parisiens looking to reshuffle the squad following their failure to win the French Ligue 1 title.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to personally sanction Matic’s switch to the Red Devils this summer, but his £50m valuation still remains a stumbling block for United with Mourinho determined to spend reasonably on his transfer targets.
Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic is another who has captured the Red Devils’ attention, but the deal has reached a dead-end with the Nerazzurri growing confident of securing a new contract for the Croatia international.
