According to the Independent, Manchester United are targeting Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos to play alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
The £325,000-per-week star, who joined Real from Bayern Munich in 2014, has made 19 La Liga appearances this season but Los Blancos have struggled for form. Currently fourth in the table and 17 points off leaders Barcelona, Zinedine Zidane’s side have been below par which could lead to a summer overhaul.
Kroos may be one of the players allowed to leave for the right price, with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho desperate for a world class midfielder. The Red Devils were after the 28-year-old German international before he joined Real four years ago and their interest has never wavered.
Mourinho could be losing a number of midfielders at the end of the season, with Marouane Fellaini’s future uncertain amid Besiktas links and Michael Carrick retiring. Ander Herrera has been linked with a move to the Serie A too, which means United will have to go shopping for a replacement.
Kroos averages 78 passes-per-game on average in La Liga, boasting a 92.5% completion ratio, and boasts a tackle or interception every 30 minutes. He breaks up the play and doesn’t relinquish possession, and could be the perfect foil for Pogba to shine.
