Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly highlighted Xherdan Shaqiri as one of the potential targets to strengthen the attack front during the ongoing transfer window.
The Switzerland international had a relatively good season for the Potters last term with eight goals and seven assists in the top-flight but it was not sufficient to avoid his side from beating the drop.
Since then, Shaqiri has strongly been linked with a return to the Premier League amid his relatively cheap relegation release clause of £12m and United have now joined the chase for the services, according to The Sun.
As per the publication, Mourinho is prepared to push through a potential deal for the former Inter Milan amid the doubts surrounding the future of Anthony Martial beyond the summer.
Martial is understood to be unsettled after witnessing Alexis Sanchez take up his left-wing position during the backend of the last term and his agent has since confirmed that he could make way from Old Trafford.
Shaqiri is certainly a valuable player who could solve United’s concern on the right side of the attack but he has largely been inconsistent with his performances when it comes to the crunch occasions.
Moreover, Mourinho has previously indicated that the club won’t be reinforcing the attack this summer and hopefully, the Portuguese has plans to bolster the left-back spot instead.
Ashley Young had a good 2017/18 season with United which has brought him back into the mix with England but with his trailing age, the club surely ought to pursue a replacement with Luke Shaw yet to impress Mourinho.
