Manchester United are unlikely to lodge a transfer approach for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale unless the Welshman publicly reveals his decision to leave the Bernabeu. The Red Devils secured the signing of Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic on a three-year deal yesterday, and the emphasis is now on bolstering the wing position.
According to Don Balon, United remain interested in pursuing a summer deal for Bale, but the move would be dependent on the attacker pushing through a Los Blancos exit. The European champions are said to value Bale at a world-record £90m, and Mourinho’s side believe that they could lower the valuation with the player’s assistance.
Bale is regarded as one of the prime targets to bolster the frontline, but Mourinho is in no hurry to pay up a massive sum for his services. As a result, United are continuing their pursuit of Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, and they hope to find a breakthrough in negotiations with the Nerazzurri holding out on a £48m sum.
The arrival of Matic is likely to strengthen the midfield department further, but there are still doubts over the future of Belgium international Marouane Fellaini, who could be allowed to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club in January.
