Manchester United are still in the search for the midfielder after Nemanja Matic’s deal collapsed, while Radja Nainggolan is set to stay at Roma. The Brazilian international Fabinho emerged as Mourinho’s new target, and United are trying to strike a fee with the French champions Monaco.
The 23-year-old who can play both as a defensive midfielder and right back, recorded ten goals and four assists in 52 appearances last season and would be a massive reinforcement if he joins the Red Devils. His versatility and ability to score is what Mourinho needs, and he will do whatever he can to bring him to Old Trafford before the league rivals Arsenal make their move. Arsene Wenger is also interested in Fabinho, while he’s tracking his teammate Thomas Lemar as well, and United need to act quickly and get their man.
Fabinho is a holding defensive midfielder who has skills to create chances with excellent through balls, while his tackling and concentration are on a high level as well. That means he would serve as a real playmaker, but will also have defensive duties, which can allow Paul Pogba to join the attack more often. The Brazilian stated that he wants to leave Monaco, and the French champions have a hard time to keep their stars in this offseason so Fabinho’s departure could materialize in the coming weeks.
However, the Tottenham’s Eric Dier remains at the top of Mourinho’s shortlist, but Spurs are reluctant to give up on him, so Fabinho seems to be the more realistic target for the time being. Monaco reportedly rejected an offer in a region of £40 from PSG, as they are not interested in selling one of their best players to the league rivals, but United could have a solid chance of getting his signature.
