Report – Club could offer £427million star to Manchester United

Samuel Umtiti

Manchester United have been linked with French international and Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti recently and the latest reports suggest that the highly rated center half could be offered to the Red Devils.

According to The Mail, the Catalan giants consider selling the World Cup winning star to the Old Trafford club in order to fund a move for Dutch international and Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Two weeks back, Italian outlet CalcioMercato reported that the Les Bleus star could leave the Nou Camp in the summer and he likes Manchester United.

Transfer: £90million+ star offered to Manchester United

Barca signed Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window and in the absence of Umtiti, the former Sevilla man has jumped up the pecking order in the first team.

Umtiti has got a release clause of £427million (The Independent) in his current contract but he has only played 9 league games so far this season and if Barca do want to sell him then it is possible that he could be lured for a cheap price.

The main issue with him is that he has got a bad record as far as the injuries are concerned. Last season, he missed 11 games in all competitions and in the 2016-17 campaign, he missed 7 games due to injuries.

Nevertheless, I think this is a great opportunity for Man United to sign a top center half. We have been looking to reinforce our back-line with a quality and experienced defender and the 25-year-old star perfectly fits the bill.

In your opinion, should United splash the cash to secure the former Lyon player if the price is right?

  1. would seek a cheaper option who is as good; say Reuben Dias. At a similar price, Koulibaly who apparently one of the best CBs in the world. Perhaps Skriniar is also a consideration. But for sure, we need at least one great CB.

  2. Samuel Umtiti would be a great addition to United, but I don’t know if he is one of United’s targets. I just think that they are other defenders that we can get. I believe Barcelona isn’t going to sell him. He was one of the best defenders for France in the World Cup.
