Another day and we have multiple reports on Frenkie de Jong, whose future at Barcelona has been up in the air for some time.

As per The Mirror, Frenkie de Jong is set to join Manchester United. On the other hand, according to a report covered by The Sunday People, Erik ten Hag wants the Red Devils to seal the deal quickly (press image provided below).

Transfer: Deal close – Man United to secure signing of £51.2m Selecao player

Simon Mullock (The Mirror) has come up with a headline stating ‘Frenkie set to go to United’. He has exclusively revealed that the Dutch manager has been able to convince the Barcelona midfielder to move to Old Trafford. Ten Hag plans to bring the glory days back and would build the team around the Netherlands international.

It is stated that United’s initial bid of £60million was rejected by the Catalan giants but as per sources in Holland, a fee of £68million plus bonuses will secure the signing.

Steve Bates (The Sunday People) has reported that the 52-year-old manager is pressing Man Utd to hire the services of the De Jong swiftly as he wants to take him to the club’s pre-season tour.

The Red Devils will kick start their pre-season campaign with a fixture, on July 12, against Liverpool in Thailand and that is why the officials are pushing hard to get the deal over the line.

Former Dutch midfielder Bert van Marwijk thinks that De Jong has not played in his preferred position for Barca and that is why the midfielder has not been at his best. The 70-year-old stated:

“If Frenkie plays in the role he should be playing then he won’t be the best midfielder in Europe – he will be the best in the world.”

The 25-year-old star’s current deal at the Nou Camp will expire in 2026 and he earns a salary of around £285,000 a week (Marca). We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds and will keep you updated.
