Report – Man United lead to agree signing of £58.5million ex Almeria player – Face competition

Darwin Nunez - Benfica and Uruguay forward

Robin van Persie was the last Manchester United striker to score more than 20 goals in the Premier League and he helped the team win the title.

Since then, almost a decade has passed and not even a single player has managed to achieve the feat of the retired Dutchman at Old Trafford.

Transfer: Man Utd, above all, can agree £45.8million fee to secure signing – Report

Even the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo has struggled. The Portuguese international has so far netted 12 goals in the Premier League and it is unlikely that he will reach the 20 goal mark with just 7 games remaining in the season.

Therefore, Man Utd definitely need a clinical finisher to eventually replace the veteran and in such a situation, Darwin Nunez is on their radar.

The Benfica star is expected to leave in the summer transfer window and has recently announced that he will not renew the contract with his representative.

According to a report covered by David Ornstein for The Athletic earlier in the day, Man Utd, PSG and Chelsea lead to secure the signing of the ex Almeria player, who has been in the form of his life in the current campaign.

The renowned journalist has stated that the Eagles are prepared to sell the 22-year-old center forward for a fee of around 70 million euros (£58.5million).

This term, in 27 starts in all competitions for the Portuguese club, the Uruguayan striker has scored 31 goals.

So, it is not surprising that he is a wanted man in the market. Will he eventually end up joning Man Utd? Only time will tell.
