Manchester United are linked with Italian international and Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella as per recent reports going on in the Italian media.
Two days back, La Gazzetta Dello Sport reported that the Red Devils and the Gunners are following the 21-year-old star, who is valued at around €50million (£45million) by the Serie A side.
Yesterday, the Italian outlet covered another story and reported that Man Utd have more chance of signing Barella than Arsenal. It is mentioned that Inter Milan have 30% chance and are considered as the favorites to lure him, United have 20% chance and Arsenal have 15% chance.
Transfer: Solskjaer gives free rein – £75,000-a-week Man Utd star prepared to agree move away from OT
Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey will be out of contract in summer and he could depart this month. If that happens then Emery would look for a replacement and perhaps Barella is the one targeted by the Gunners.
The United faithful should not really mind if the Italian ends up moving to the Emirates.
Looking at Man United’s current midfield, Fellaini is mainly a bench warmer and Matic’s best days are behind him so, in my view, United do need to improve the depth of their midfield department but they should look at someone better than Barella.
The Azzurri midfielder is considered to be a creative star but he did not provide a single assist last season. So far, he has not set up a single goal for the club this season and has scored just once in 20 appearances in all competitions.
United have a world class creative CM in the form of Pogba. Also, Herrera is there and he has been doing great recently. Therefore, United do not really need a creative midfielder, instead, they should look to replace Matic by signing a solid play breaker.
