Manchester United and Manchester City have been linked with Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes for a quite some time and the latest reports are intriguing.
According to A Bola, Man City have advanced with a move of €55million to sign the Sporting CP attacking midfielder.
However, the Portuguese outlet have claimed that Manchester United are ready to beat their rivals to secure the signing of the Seleccao star and for that, they are prepared to pay €70million or even €80million (£71million).
Transfer: Man Utd have made a huge proposal to sign £88million playmaker – Face competition
In the current squad, Solskjaer does not have a top quality central attacking midfielder. Juan Mata, who is a natural CAM, turned 31 last month. He only started 16 times in the league in the last campaign and mainly played on the right wing.
On the other hand, Lingard is capable of playing in the attacking midfield role but he also played on the right wing more often than not. Moreover, he was not consistent.
At times, Solskjaer also used Pogba in the No. 10 role but the French international is naturally a center midfielder and mainly played in his preferred position.
Therefore, United should move to sign a top player, who can effectively play in the hole behind the main striker and Bruno Fernandes perfectly fits the bill.
In the recently concluded Primeira Liga campaign, the 24-year-old star featured in 33 games and directly contributed in as many goals (20 goals and 13 assists).
It must be noted that United’s two main strikers, Rashford and Lukaku, collectively scored 28 goals in all competitions. On the other hand, Fernandes found the net 32 times for the Portuguese club in all competitions.
At the moment, the Citizens are in a much better condition to challenge for the next season’s PL title. Moreover, the Sky Blues will be taking part in the Champions League and United will feature in the Europa League. So, it would be a huge capture if the Red Devils can beat City to his signature.
