Report – Man United prepared to secure signing of £60million play breaker next summer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United needed to sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window, instead, they reinforced the attack and the backline.

The Red Devils have not lured a prolific midfielder for more than three years and therefore, reports suggest that Ole is keen to strengthen the department.

Transfer: Man Utd offered £245,000 a week to sign star who wanted Old Trafford move – Report

According to an exclusive report covered by The Daily Star (press image provided below), the Old Trafford outfit have been chasing West Ham United’s Declan Rice for quite some time but now, they have ended their interest in the England international because the Hammers are demanding a mammoth fee of £90million.

Now, Man Utd are prepared to secure the signing of Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips and it is stated that Solskjaer is eager to hire his services next summer.

The 25-year-old play breaker has been a key member of the Whites’s squad under the management of Marcelo Bielsa and he was brilliant for the Three Lions at the European Championships.

At Man Utd, Ole neither has a specialist defensive midfielder nor a deep lying playmaker. In such a scenario, Phillips, who can effectively perform both roles, would be a top addition.

The 17-capped international’s current contract with the Elland Road outfit will expire in 2024 and as per The Daily Star, he is valued at £60million. Leeds obviously want to hold on to their prized asset and reports (90min) indicate that they are planning to offer him a bumper new deal.

With Matic past his best and in the absence of a top regista, should Man Utd spend £60million to sign Kalvin Phillips?
