David de Gea was Manchester United’s mainstay in the goalkeeping department for more than a decade before leaving as a free agent ahead of last season.

Andre Onana was purchased from Inter Milan for a big fee to replace the Spaniard but he has been inconsistent.

In 27 Premier League appearances this, he has kept seven clean sheets with a 65% saving rate and also made three errors that led to goals.

Overall, the Cameroonian hasn’t been able to win the trust of United fans. Now, Italian outlet, Milan Live, report that Man Utd are planning to replace Onana and are ready to make a move to sign AC Milan star, Mike Maignan.

The Frenchman has entered the final 16 months of his current contract and talks regarding signing an extension with the Rossoneri haven’t progressed yet. Therefore, he is highly likely to leave San Siro Stadium at the end of this campaign.

Maignan currently earns just around £57,000-a-week with the Italian giants, so, agreeing on personal terms with him shouldn’t be an issue for the Old Trafford club.

After joining from LOSC Lille, the 29-year-old has guided his team to win a Scudetto title and Supercoppa Italiana trophy over the years. However, he has been average this season, making three errors that led to goals and giving away a penalty.

Despite that, he has kept 10 clean sheets with a 70% saving rate in 27 Serie A appearances this term.

Altay Bayindir is the backup option to Onana for the Red Devils but he hasn’t been able to push the African for the first-team spot. So, adding a new goalkeeper to create competition for Onana might be the right decision.

However, Ruben Amorim’s side might be better off going for a younger goalkeeper than Maignan. What do you think?
