Report – Man Utd told £52million will get signing done – Face competition

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United wanted to improve their attacking department last year but could only lure a veteran center forward in the form of Edinson Cavani.

In the winter transfer window, the Old Trafford outfit were heavily linked with Pedro Goncalvez, better known as Pote. Jornal de Noticias reported that the Red Devils inquired about signing the Portuguese but Sporting decided against selling their star attacker in the middle of the season.

Now, reports suggest that the Primeira Liga champions fear that they might end up losing their prized asset this summer even if they end up agreeing a new deal with him.

According to Record (via Sport Witness), Sporting’s priority is to hand Pote a new deal to extend his stay with the club but it seems unlikely that they will be able to increase the release clause in his contract i.e. £52million.

In such a scenario, it is stated that the player will only be transferred this summer if the above mentioned release clause is activated. The Portuguese source state that the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool are looking to hire his services.

In the recently concluded campaign, the 22-year-old star directly contributed in 27 goals (23 goals and 4 assists) to end the Lion’s title drought. So, it is not surprising that he has been named in the Portugal national squad for the Euros.

Man Utd mainly need a right winger to improve their attacking midfield and Pote is naturally a CAM. We already have a world class CAM in the form of Bruno Fernandes, who was once again named the Player of the Year. So, the Seleccao star is irreplaceable in the starting lineup.

On the other hand, we lured Donny van de Beek last summer to cover for Bruno and the Dutch international mainly warmed the bench last term. Therefore, in my view, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer really does not need to lure a new No. 10. What do you think?

  1. For me what I think is that, there is no need buying players and not using them. The main problem with the team now is making the right decision on the captain who to captain the team is our major problem now. So Ole should go back to drawing board and analyze very well before selecting a player to lead a team. For all I know captains mostly giving to the longest serving players in the team. New players have no reason to worry about. But when you have older players and you give the captain to new players, the team will never progress, it slows down the progress and end up creating problems among the players for no reason.

  2. No. Vdb as we seen is not a cam, more of a cm then. So obv we do have lack of cover in CAM position. But breaking to bank to sign one squad player may not be ideal, yet, because we have more pressing need in other position – CDM, especially.
