Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku will face no action for his alleged kick of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Gaetan Bong last weekend. The Belgium international appeared to kick in the nuts of the Seagulls defender prior to United’s only goal of the game, and this led to suggestions that he could receive a three-man ban, which could see him key matches versus Arsenal and Manchester City.
However, according to BBC Sport, the 24-year-old has been cleared off the charge as the independent review panel of former Premier League referees did not agree on a whole over the potential sending off offence.
As a result, the marksman is certain to make the matchday on Tuesday night, where United face a tricky encounter against Marco Silva’s Watford at Vicarage Road. Lukaku started the campaign in fine fashion with 11 goals in his first 10 matches – including the European Super Cup defeat versus Real Madrid.
He has since struggled to produce a similar showing upfront, and this has contributed to a solitary goal in his last 10 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side. Nevertheless, he continues to get the backing being the club’s main striker and he could be fancied to lead the line against the Hornets.
Manchester United are currently eight points behind table-toppers Manchester City, who continued their unbeaten run with a 2-1 comeback win over Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
