If reports in the media are anything to go by then Manchester United are in talks to hire the services of Ivorian international and Lille star Nicolas Pepe.
Duncan Castles recently covered a report for The Times and claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskajer is pressing to sign the African star from the Ligue 1 club.
The renowned journalist claimed (The Times) that the Red Devils have progressed talks to secure the signing of the playmaker, who is valued at over £70million.
Transfer: Deal close – Man Utd offer acceptable terms to sign £80million star
The 24-year-old winger was in sensational form in the last campaign. In all competitions, he featured in 41 games and directly contributed in no fewer than 35 goals (23 goals and 12 assists).
In the recently concluded African Cup of Nations, Pepe featured in three fixtures for Ivory Coast (0 goals/assists), who were knocked out of the competition by Algeria in the quarter finals (on penalties).
The former SCO Angers player is naturally a right winger and it must be remembered that this summer, United have already lured a right winger in the form of Daniel James. Moreover, stars like Lingard and Mata have effectively played on the right flank at Old Trafford.
As far as the competition is concerned, the likes of Everton, Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in signing the highly rated Lille star (The Times).
Last month, RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi told Get French Football News that Liverpool have held concrete talks to sign the player, who is rated at 80 million euros (£72million).
Moreover, earlier this month, Lille president Gerard Lopez claimed that Pepe is a ‘very special’ star and also confirmed that the Merseysiders have discussed the transfer with the his agent (RMC Sport).
In my view, among the mentioned clubs, the European Champions should be considered as the main contenders because they can offer Pepe Champions League football in the next campaign.
The Red Devils and the Gunners will take part in the Europa League next season, on the other hand, the Toffees will not take part in any European competition. Not to forget, Lille finished second in the table last season and will play in the CL next season.
In your opinion, should Solskjaer splash the cash to lure Pepe?
