From Spain: Jose Mourinho ‘will accept’ summer exit of two star midfielders

Mata Herrera

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will reportedly not in the stand of Ander Herrera and Juan Mata, should they decide on fresh challenges at the end of the season. The Spanish pair saw their contracts extended until the summer of 2019 earlier in the campaign.

According to Marca, both Herrera and Mata remain valuable members of the first-team squad and United have no interest in selling them during the summer transfer window. However, should either player request a transfer, Mourinho is unlikely to block their exits from Old Trafford.

Both Herrera and Mata have been in-and-out of the starting lineup this term, and the former, in particular, has received limited playing time owing to injuries, loss of form and the competition for players within the squad.

The Basque midfielder is already said to be seeking a potential return to Athletic Bilbao during the summer, whilst Atletico Madrid are also interested, should his former employers fail to meet United’s valuation.

Likewise, Mata has previously been associated with a move to the Serie A with Inter Milan, but there is nothing concrete to suggest that either player could be heading through the exit door.
