Manchester United look to be on a signing spree in the transfer window, understandably with a new controlling head in place. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is leaving no stone unturned in giving Erik ten Hag a competitive squad to work with for next season.
The appointment of Dan Ashworth seems to be pushing the club in the right direction too, which is reflected in the signings the club have been linked with so far. Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro are already Manchester Reds with more players expected to follow.

As per today’s edition of The Mirror (press image provided below), Erik ten Hag wants to sign another defender before the window shuts. The unprecedented injury issues that the Dutch manager had to contend with last season, especially in defence has prompted the club to reinforce the backline.
However, there is a catch. Having already made two significant signings, the report adds that Man Utd need to offload several players to generate cash from the sales and reinvest back in the market. The next defender that Ten Hag wants to bring in is his trusted lieutenant, Matthijs de Ligt.
The Bayern Munich defender has struggled for regular game time in Germany and has seen his career stalling in recent seasons. Ten Hag seems confident to get the best out of the £40m rated ex-Juventus defender, having already done so at Ajax.
United’s net summer spend at the moment is a negative £61.9m, with the club spending £88.5m on incoming but recuperating a part of it from their sale of Mason Greenwood to Olympique Marseille for £26.6m. The 22-year-old can also bring more money to the club in the future thanks to the add-ons negotiated.
With the Premier League PSR rules putting a cap on Man Utd’s transfer budget at £40m initially, the club are willing to listen to offers for Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Jadon Sancho and are willing to sell them for the right price.
Selling any of the aforementioned defenders to bring in Matthijs de Ligt is a no-brainer. The Dutchman is an upgrade on both Maguire and Lindelof in the centre-back position. Let’s hope the Red Devils can get this transfer over the line as soon as possible so that the 24-year-old can join the team and be a part of the pre-season.
