Terms agreed: Man Utd make move for £80million versatile player – Face competition

Tanguy Ndombele

If reports in the media are anything to go by then Manchester United have made a move for a versatile midfield player in the form of Tanguy Ndombele.

According to Soccer Link, Man United have agreed terms with the French international and have made an offer worth 60 million euros as well.

Transfer: Deal close – Man United to secure £60million signing

However, the French outlet have reported that the Red Devils face competition to secure his signature. It is mentioned that Juventus have also agreed terms with the player and Spurs have also made a move worth 60 million euros. Furthermore, PSG are looking at the situation of the 22-year-old, who is valued at 90 million euros (£80million).

Last month, The Metro exclusively covered a report and linked the young midfielder with Manchester City. The British source also mentioned the price tag of £80million.

The former SC Amiens star is naturally a defensive midfielder, who regularly started for the Ligue 1 side in the last campaign and helped them earn a place in the next season’s Champions League.

Moreover, Ndombele has proved to be effective in the creative central midfield role as well. Last season, he scored 3 goals and also provided 8 assists in all competitions.

As far as United are concerned, Solskjaer’s first choice holding midfield star is Nemanja Matic. The Serbian international used to be world class for Chelsea but in the last campaign for United, he was highly inconsistent.

The Old Trafford club regularly conceded goals and the veteran midfielder could not provide a solid cover in front of the back four. It must be taken into consideration that now he is much slower and will turn 31 in August.

Therefore, in my view, the former Benfica man is past his best and United should push to sign a young and strong defensive midfielder like Ndombele.

We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming days.

  1. ManU need to get more versatile midfielders,we have the attacking part, but we get burned badly in transition counterattack.Matic and Fred get left in the dust week in and week out..I say spending the money on Declan Rice is an immediate upgrade and he is young enough to be around for the next ten years or more.
