Man Utd signed promising young French defender Leny Yoro this summer only for him to suffer an injury in pre-season and rule himself out for three months. It is not the start the player would have envisioned for his career in Old Trafford.
The reason Erik ten Hag wanted to sign new defenders was to avoid a situation like last season where key defenders missed phases of the campaign through injury. What happened to Yoro is unfortunate but it has thrown a spanner in the works.

This could force Man Utd to sign another centre-back before the window ends, something that they were contemplating even before Yoro’s injury. It looks like the Red Devils are set to return to a familiar target in Jarrad Branthwaite.
As per The Sun, Man Utd are set to launch a fresh bid for the one-cap English defender and believe a £50million bid could interest Everton.
The report goes on to add that the Red Devils had previously submitted a bid for the 22-year-old for around £35million plus £8m in add-ons which was rejected by the Toffees who were holding out for £70m.
The Athletic had a different version of the same story last month. They reported that United have made two offers for Branthwaite with a £50m bid already rejected by Everton.
We covered a report more than a month ago revealing that the Goodison Park outfit were asking for as high as £90m to sell the former Carlisle defender.
That’s frankly an outrageous sum to demand for a player who has only played at the top most level in the Premier League for a season.
With so much confusion on what the valuation and the bids for the player are, the only thing that can be said for certain is that the 22-year-old wants to move to Old Trafford, with the player already agreeing terms with the Red Devils.
At this point, no one knows what fee would convince Everton to sell Branthwaite this summer. The 22-year-old is likely to prove too expensive for Man Utd and it’s time we focus our efforts on other targets. What do you think?
