European transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Ivan Perisic is close to signing a new contract with Inter Milan. The Croatia international has been pursued by Manchester United since the end of last season, but unfortunately, a deal has not materialised.
United boss Jose Mourinho was initially hoping to sign Perisic on the cheap with the Nerazzurri having to comply with the Financial Fair Play requirements. However, the San Siro outfit managed to overcome their predicament by negotiating smaller deals for the fringe players, and they are in a pretty strong position to keep Perisic.
Manager Luciano Spalletti recently confirmed that Perisic determined to stay with the Nerazzurri, and Gianluca Di Marzio had added into the story by suggesting that the attacker will finalise a long-term contract with the club.
United had the opportunity to sign Perisic for £48m or offer Anthony Martial on loan to reduce the transfer value, but they seem to have ignored both options with Mourinho preferring a cheaper recruit to bolster the wing.
Manchester United looked in tip-top shape during the 4-0 thumping of West Ham United in the Premier League opener, and Mourinho could probably stick with his three signings in Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic for the summer transfer window.
