“True” – Journo reveals Man Utd have moved in to sign PL proven star who’s ready to join Red Devils

Marcos Alonso

Man Utd continue to be linked with a number of players this transfer window and an ex-Barcelona player could be on their radar.

Erik ten Hag struggled with injuries in defense last season with the manager almost going through the entire season without a left-back.

Transfer: Record – Player now ‘on the verge’ of signing for Man Utd – Move ‘closer’

This season, the Red Devils have yet again started the campaign without a natural left-back with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia still injured. Ten Hag has used Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot in this position so far.

Could Man Utd be about to purchase a cheap, experienced option for the left-back role? Ex-Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso who is currently a free agent on the market following the expiration of his contract with Barcelona could move to Old Trafford.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, here is what journalist Ben Jacobs had to say about Man Utd’s potential move for the Spanish veteran:

“It’s possible at the moment, nothing is advanced, but what’s true is that Manchester United have discussed Alonso internally, and from Alonso’s point of view, it’s been made clear from the player camp that he’d be interested to have a conversation with Manchester United.”

Reliable Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, also confirmed that Alonso has been offered to the Red Devils and that the 33-year-old would love to join Erik ten Hag’s team. Conversations are set to continue in the coming days.

Alonso is no stranger to the Premier League having spent a significant time in his career with Chelsea. He has won the Premier League under Antonio Conte and the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel.

He has also won the La Liga with Barcelona and is a proven performer with a wealth of experience.

Ideally, we’d be saying that Man Utd must not look at a player like Alonso. However, considering our injury predicament, the versatile Spaniard can give us cover at both left-back and centre-back and it would be wise to add the veteran to the squad at ideal wages. Let’s see how the negotiations pan out in the coming days.
