Manchester United have been heavily linked with Nicolas Pepe in the past few days and now reports suggest that the player has agreed to join the Red Devils.
Yesterday, we covered a report (via The Times) claiming that Solskjaer is pressing to hire the services of the Ivorian international but clubs like Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal are in the lime light as well.
Transfer: Club willing to sanction £110,000-a-week star’s move to Man Utd
Now, it seems that the Old Trafford club are favorites to secure the signature of the Lille winger.
Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Pepe has agreed terms of a five-year contract with the Red Devils. Man Utd are now working to agree a fee with the French side, who are demanding a huge sum of around £70million.
At Old Trafford, last season, the likes of Mata, Lingard and Rashford were often utilized on the right flank. However, Mata and Lingard are attacking midfielders and Rashford is naturally a center forward, who excelled in his preferred position under Solskjaer last term.
Juan Mata will turn 32 next year and he was mostly a bench warmer last season. On the other hand, Lingard was highly inconsistent. He featured in 27 league games and only scored 4 goals.
Therefore, quality and depth needs to be improved as far as the right wing is concerned. This summer, United have already lured a right winger in the form of Daniel James and Welsh international was highly impressive for Swansea City in the Championship last season.
Now, United should agree fee and secure the signing of Pepe, who was a superstar in the French league and has got the qualities to be a hit in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old star is a left-footed winger, who mostly plays on the right wing and like Messi, he likes to cut in on his left foot a lot. He has got raw pace and likes to dribble past opponents as well (Who Scored).
Last season, he started 37 games in the Ligue 1 and directly contributed in 33 goals (22 goals and 11 assists).
