France head coach Didier Deschamps has revealed that Manchester United are desperate to keep hold of Anthony Martial beyond this summer’s transfer window.
The 22-year-old has been in sublime touch for the Red Devils this term with 11 goals and a further nine assists, but he has managed just two Premier League starts since Alexis Sanchez’s winter arrival.
As a result, there has been speculation of the Frenchman considering his Old Trafford future with Juventus supposedly leading the race to acquire his signature.
Despite this, Deschamps has insisted that United do not want to offload him in the summer, he said: “Martial has a contract with United and the club does not want to sell him.
“Then let’s see if he will be looked for, by Juventus or by someone else. I do not give advice, I give my opinion. Then, eventually, it is up to the players to decide.”
Martial current deal with United expires in the summer of 2019, and the lack of contractual negotiations are likely to put his future into doubt heading into the next transfer window.
Meanwhile, a recent report has suggested that Mourinho could sanction the sale of Martial to recruit long-time favourite Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, but United fans will hope that this isn’t the case with the Portuguese previously stressing that forward signings are unlikely in the summer.
