Andreas Pereira is desperate to prove his worth to Jose Mourinho and is looking forward to the upcoming season with the hopes of breaking into the first team.
The Brazilian midfielder found his place in Man United’s pre-season squad and knows that he must impress the gaffer on the US tour. Pereira was included in last year’s pre-season as well but was loaned to Spanish side Granada before the campaign started. He is aware that the place in the pre-season squad doesn’t have to mean that he will feature in the first team.
“I am very happy that I am back, and I can be part of this team,” Pereira told MUTV. “I will try to do my best to stay here, get an important role for the season, to help my teammates and to impress the manager. It boosts me that the people here trust the young players. I am very happy for the young players and I want to be a part of this team as well,” the Brazilian concluded.
The Belgium-born midfielder started his career at PSV and moved to Man United in January 2012. He appeared in 13 games for the Red Devils’ senior team and scored a goal in the third round of the League Cup against Ipswich Town in September 2015. Last season, Pereira spent at Granada and recorded five goals and three assists in 37 matches in all competitions.
Pereira is a gifted attacking midfielder who can also play on both wings, while he can be deployed as false nine if needed. With Adnan Januzaj’s departure to Real Sociedad, Pereira will have more space and chance to enter the first team, but he needs to showcase his skills in the US, where Manchester United currently are on the pre-season tour. The 21-year-old could be useful in cup competitions as United will fight on four fronts in the upcoming campaign.
