Adnan Januzaj is on the verge of Old Trafford exit after Man United accepted £9.8 million from Real Sociedad.
The 22-year-old’s contract is expiring next year, so this is a good deal for the Red Devils as Jose Mourinho clearly doesn’t count on him, which was evident after the Portuguese omitted Januzaj from the pre-season squad list that went to the United States.
Real Sociedad and Galatasaray were in the mix to sign Januzaj, but the Spaniards moved quickly and will get their man in the next few days. The Belgian international will undergo medical today ahead of the move to Anoeta as his days at Old Trafford are over.
Januzaj broke into the first team under David Moyes in 2013-14, recording four goals and four assists in 27 appearances in the Premier League, but with the arrival of Lous van Gaal, he lost the place in a team and was loaned to Borussia Dortmund, where he failed to impress. Dortmund sent him back to United after only four months, while the last season, Januzaj spent on loan at Sunderland and played under David Moyes again. However, he only made three assists in 25 league games, and Mourinho decided not to keep him at the club anymore.
Januzaj showcased his talent early in his career, but it seems that his poor attitude and mentality are not enough for the player to succeed at Old Trafford or even in the Premier League as no offers were received from the EPL teams, whatsoever.
He is still young and could have a great career, but the Man United chapter is over for the Belgian winger so he will try his luck at Real Sociedad instead. Sociedad has a solid team and several excellent players such as Carlos Vela, Sergio Canales, and Xabi Prieto, among others, so Januzaj should blend well into the team.
