Manchester United remain linked with Ousmane Dembele and the latest update coming from Spain suggests that they are intent on signing the Barcelona star.

Transfer: Man Utd pressing to finally sign ‘great’ £64million versatile star – Report

The Spanish news source have mentioned that Barca are pushing to agree a new deal with the 24-year-old playmaker, negotiations are at an advanced stage and the final decision could be taken at the end of this week.

Sport claim that the main obstacle is that the Catalan giants are looking to cut his salary down in order to secure the new contract. At a new club he can easily earn more by moving on a bosman and it is stated that Man Utd are pushing the strongest to sign him.

At the moment, Dembele is earning around 12 million euros a season i.e. £196,000-a-week (Marca).

The Les Bleus playmaker excelled with Dortmund under Tuchel, who mainly utilized the attacker in the CAM role, on the other hand, for France and Barca, he has mostly played as a winger.

Unfortunately, his time in Spain has been marred by consistent injury concerns and even this term, he has only started 3 games in all competitions thus far (7 appearances).

Man Utd already have ample quality and depth in their wide and central attacking midfield positions. Therefore, signing another winger would not be ideal and they should surely avoid luring a highly injury prone player.
