Earlier in the day, we covered a story (via Sport) claiming that Manchester United want to close the signing of Frenkie de Jong this week.
The Spanish media outlet have covered another intriguing report today (news image provided below) stating that Man Utd’s offer is on the table for the Dutch star.
Transfer: Man Utd told £46m-£50m offer would secure signing – Star prefers Old Trafford move
Sport claim that Barca urgently want to sell players like De Jong, Memphis Depay and Sergino Dest to meet the ‘fair play’ demands and register stars like Kessie, Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kounde and Christensen for the new La Liga campaign.
As per the Catalan source, the messages from the Blaugrana and the manager could not be more forceful. The 5-time European Champions have said “You have to go”. On the other hand, Xavi has stated “I don’t know if he’s going to stay”.
For now, the comments have fallen on deaf ears but it is stated that in the coming hours, the pressure to leave will intensify as De Jong would not just want to get paid without playing.
In the end, the £320,000 a week star (Mirror Sport) will have to accept one of the two offers on the table (from Man Utd and Chelsea) or cut down his wages by a lot to continue at the Nou Camp.
Sport report that the countdown has started and the decision would be known soon.
Will Frenkie de Jong end up moving to Old Trafford? We shall see.
