Manchester United have been linked with Slovenian international Jan Oblak for a long time and now the Atletico Madrid shot stopper is in the focus again.
Few days back, we covered a report (via The Sun) claiming that the Red Devils are looking to sign the 26-year-old La Liga star should De Gea leave Old Trafford in the winter transfer window.
Transfer: Man Utd to make stunning move to sign £80,000-a-week playmaker in January – Report
More recently, Don Balon have come up with a report and claimed that the Red Devils have begun to believe that De Gea has been contacted by Real Madrid and they fear that he might leave.
In such a scenario, the Spanish source have mentioned that Man Utd will activate Oblak’s huge release clause of 120 million euros to secure his signing.
The highly rated shot stopper has been the best goalie in the Spanish league since he joined Atletico Madrid four years back. He is without doubt one of the best in the world and has the quality to replace De Gea, who has been highly inconsistent for over a year for both the club and the country.
Not so long ago, Oblak signed a new deal with the Rojiblancos and as per Don Balon, he is earning 10 million euros annually i.e. £175,000-a-week.
To be honest, De Gea is past his best. Furthermore, he does not seem interested in giving his 100% for United and such a player should be offloaded.
Oblak has what it takes to fill the Spaniard’s boots but in all fairness, he is in a better place right now. We are struggling under Solskjaer and might fail to qualify for the CL yet again if things do not start to improve immediately.
