Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on signing Willian from Chelsea but the deal is unlikely to involve Anthony Martial acting as a makeweight, The Star reports.
In recent days, Willian has been strongly linked with a reunion with Mourinho and reports have suggested that a fee of around £60m could tempt the Blues to do business.
In this regard, there has also been the suggestion that United could offer Martial as part of the summer agreement for Willian, but this possibility has now been seemingly ruled out.
Martial’s agent recently suggested that his client ‘wants to leave‘ Old Trafford during the summer but the board have until now expressed no interest in offloading the Frenchman.
Nevertheless, the potential arrival of another competitor may tempt the winger to push for a summer exit and it will be interesting to see as to how the club will react to such a situation.
Martial’s present contract expires in the summer of 2019 but United have the luxury of a 12-month extension clause which could be triggered at the turn of the year. Martial is presently said to be valued at around £75m.
