Manchester United and other top clubs are interested in hiring the services of Nuno Mendes, who has been in brilliant form for Sporting CP in the current campaign.
According to O Jogo (press image provided below), the likes of Man Utd, Man City, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus have been after the teenage sensation and the suitors have been told that the only way to sign him is to activate the £60million release clause included in his contract.
Transfer: £120,000-a-week star could seal Man United move in summer – Report
The well known Portuguese source have mentioned that The Lions do not intend to give up on their player for a fee lower than 70 million euros (£60million).
Mendes broke into the first team of Sporting CP in the final few games of the last campaign but this season, he has not only become a regular starter but without doubt, he is the best left back in the country.
In 20 Liga Nos appearances thus far, he has helped the team keep no fewer than 14 clean sheets. Sporting have only let in 11 goals in 24 Primeira Liga fixtures and have a 10 point lead over reigning champions FC Porto.
The consistent performances of the 18-year-old boy has not gone un-noticed and he has been called up by Fernando Santos for the national side. It is not surprising that he is making his debut for the Seleccao tonight. He should be included in the squad for the European Championships this summer.
At Old Trafford, Man United have Luke Shaw as their first choice left back. The England international has been in top form under Solskjaer and reports have even suggested that the Red Devils are preparing talks to sign a new contract with him.
On the other hand, Ole also has an experienced player in the form of Alex Telles to cover for Shaw. Therefore, I do not think that Man Utd really need to invest to sign another left back. Instead, other key departments should be reinforced first in the summer.
