Erik ten Hag has hardly at a fit defence to work with since his first season at the club. The Dutch coach seems keen on correcting the situation ahead of this window, as they have been linked with a number of defenders.

We covered a story around ten days ago revealing that Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui were prepared to agree to move to Old Trafford and were only waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.

Alternatively, around 15 days ago, we covered yet another story that Man Utd are in talks to sign Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries and that the player is ready to agree to a move to Old Trafford this summer.

There hasn’t been much development on either front as Man Utd fans continue to wait for a definitive response. It’s not the players that are the problem here. The Red Devils are unable to agree to the fee with any of the selling clubs.

Now, reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on his YouTube channel, revealing what Man Utd’s priority is:

“There will be more for Manchester United, because they keep working and keeping contacts active for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.”

Despite all the stories on Dumfries, the top priority for Manchester United remains Mazraoui, because he can also play on the left, and because it’s a player already well known by Erik ten Hag.”

Mazraoui seems to be the most likely among all the names mentioned to be on his way to Old Trafford. The £132,000 a week star‘s versatility is appreciated and the fact that he has played under Ten Hag before helps.

The Moroccan international will be signed predominantly as a right-back but both Dalot and him can play on the left should a need arise. Last season, Ten Hag was forced to play the likes of Victor Lindelof, Sofyan Amrabat and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that position; all three of them looked uncomfortable.

All things considered, Mazraoui would be a great signing for Man Utd. Let’s see if the Red Devils can wrap up a deal for him with Bayern and hopefully, also bring De Ligt to Old Trafford.
