To say Manchester United were shambolic against Liverpool last night will be an understatement. Erik ten Hag’s side simply did not turn up at Old Trafford as Arne Slot’s side ran circles around the Red Devils in a 3-0 win.

A brace from Luis Diaz and a goal from Mohamed Salah were enough for Liverpool to get past Man Utd on the day but the truth be told, the Old Trafford outfit can consider themselves extremely fortunate to have not lost this fixture by a bigger margin.

Casemiro was disastrous in the first half for Man Utd and was rightly taken off by Ten Hag. That said, if the Dutch coach had the choice to take off 10 players, everyone except perhaps Kobbie Mainoo deserved to be substituted last night.

Three games into the season and Erik ten Hag has already lost a couple. The Dutch coach, after the £220.4million investment that the board have backed him with this summer, will be under immense pressure to deliver results.

Club legend and pundit Roy Keane absolutely tore into Man Utd after the game against Liverpool, speaking to Sky Sports via The Independent. Here is what he had to say:

“You can try and dress it up a little bit, but United were shocking. Every time Liverpool went forward, they looked like they were going to score. Not good. There has been a lot of good PR about Manchester United over the last few months about plans for the stadium, blah blah blah, but in a big game against Liverpool, I’m just really disappointed that Manchester United didn’t turn up.”

“I’m always surprised when the game is over after 50 or 60 minutes. I know you can have an off day, but for the game to be over after an hour, it’s hard to accept.”

The words of Keane echo those of most Man Utd fans around the world. After all the hype surrounding their summer transfer business, this is the worst start that the Red Devils could have imagined going into an important campaign.

If results continue down this downward trajectory, it won’t be long before Erik ten Hag is shown the door and Man Utd need to start their project from day one. The Dutch coach really needs to pick up things before it gets too late.

The good thing for Ten Hag is the fact that he now gets a couple of weeks to work with his new signings during the international break. The squad will also be bolstered by the return of the likes of Rasmus Hojlund in the near future.

Man Utd fans will have a miserable feeling after last night but there is nothing that can be done for the next couple of weeks. Let’s see how things pan out in the future for Ten Hag and his team.
