Manchester United are closing in on the signature of 18-year-old French starlet Leny Yoro to reinforce the centre-back position but they don’t seem to be done. Fresh off the heels of the Lille youngster’s transfer, the Red Devils have set their sights on their next target.
As per today’s edition of The Telegraph (press image provided at the end), Man Utd remain in the market for another central defender and have a potential deal in place to sign Bayern Munich star, Matthijs de Ligt.

Despite joining the German giants just two years ago, the 24-year-old is already ready to leave for his next club.
A reunion with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford could be on the cards for the Dutch international. We covered a story from BILD stating that the Red Devils were negotiating with Bayern over a £41.9m deal and that ‘an agreement is in sight’.
Reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano provided the latest update on the situation, stating that whilst the player remains keen on a move to Man Utd and continues to wait for them, they are yet to close a deal with Bayern.
Once they wrap up the Leny Yoro transfer for good, it is expected that the Red Devils will turn their attention to the ex-Ajax star.
Man Utd had a Real Madrid-sized knife hanging over their heads and understandably wanted to wrap up the Frenchman’s transfer before the Spanish giants swapped in. Whereas with De Ligt, there doesn’t seem to be any other club in the race.
De Ligt is at a stage of his career where he can no longer be categorized as a youngster. He has failed to live up to the hype that surrounded him during his stint at Ajax. This transfer could be ‘make or break’ with regards to how the Dutchman’s career is remembered.
With De Ligt’s career needing a confidence boost, who better than Erik ten Hag to take charge of the situation?
The Dutchman was the one who first brought the defender to the limelight and let’s hope the duo can form yet another formidable partnership at Old Trafford not just next season, but for years to come.
