Dayot-Upamecano-France

Manchester United were in pole position to win the Premier League title going into the fixture at Anfield but they were only able to get a single point. We had the chances to beat the Reds in their own backyard but Alisson was brilliant in the goal stopped us every time.

Now, after the terrible defeat against Sheffield United at Old Trafford, our rivals, Manchester City are favorites to lift the trophy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done well to make us compete for the title against but he needs to improve the squad in the January transfer window to ensure that we get over the line and win the No. 21.

For that to happen, the Norwegian manager must secure one key signing this month and that is of a top class central defender. No team in the top 11 has conceded more goals in the Premier League than Man United and over the years we have spent a lot to strengthen the area.

Still, we have continued to leaked goals because the likes of Victor Lindelof and club captain Harry Maguire, who is the most expensive defender in the world, have been highly inconsistent. In such a scenario, Ole needs to make amends once and for all by signing the leader of the back-line. You can always bet on who Man United will sign in the winter transfer window and if you want to earn money through online games then that can be done here on this site.

We take a look at the central defenders that have what it takes to largely improve things at the back at Old Trafford.

Dayot Upamecano – RB Leipzig – France

The French international helped RB Leipzig reached the semi final of the Champions League last season. In the contest against Atletico Madrid, he was highly impressive against a top class striker like Diego Costa and kept the Spaniard out.

This season, under his leadership, Leipzig have so far conceded the fewest number of goals. As per reports going on in the media, he is available for a fee of 60 million euros and his contract with the German side will expire in less than three years.

Lately, transfer specialist David Webb has backed Man Utd to sign Upamecano. He told Sky Sports:

“A particular player (I would recommend Man United to sign) that springs to mind is Dayot Upamecano; one I’ve known for quite a long time. He broke onto the scene when he was signed from Valencia to Red Bull Salzburg.”

Kalidou Koulibaly – Napoli – Senegal

The Senegalese international is one of the best central defenders in the world. He is the only defender that made it into the Serie A Team of the Season four years in a row from 2015-16 to 2018-19. He is the captain of the senior national side and has been named the Player of the Year by his country on two occasions as well.

Koulibaly plays for Italian side Napoli, who are currently fighting for the title and would not want to lose their star player in the middle of the campaign. However, club president, Aurelio de Laurentiis, has confirmed that the defender can be signed if his valuation of more than 100 million euros is met.

Raphael Varane – Real Madrid – France

The Real Madrid superstar has won every major prize in Spanish football, moreover, he has won the Champions League on four occasions. He has been on the radar of Manchester United for a long time and if he is looking for a new challenge then joining the Red Devils, who are one of the biggest clubs in the world would be the right step.

It must be remembered that Varane is already a World Champion, he was a key member of the French squad that won the World Cup in Russia back in 2018 under the management of Didier Deschamps.

His current contract with the Los Blancos will expire in 2022 and as per Transfermarkt he is rated at 70 million euros. The 27-year-old is still in his peak years and has regularly started under the guidance of Zinadine Zidane.

In the current campaign, so far, Man United have already conceded 27 goals in 20 Premier League games and things need to be improved if we are to have strong chance of winning the title after eight long years. In your opinion, who should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sign to reinforce his central defense in the winter transfer window this month?
